About this Podcast

HOST: Welcome to our podcast, today I'm thrilled to be joined by Dr. Jane Smith, an expert in accessible design and the lead instructor for the Graduate Certificate in Design for Disability Inclusion. Dr. Smith, can you tell us a bit about what inspired you to create this course? GUEST: Absolutely, I've seen firsthand how crucial inclusive design is in today's diverse society. The lack of understanding and training in this area can lead to exclusion and inequality, so I wanted to create a program that would address these issues head-on. HOST: That's commendable. Now, as an expert in this field, could you share some current industry trends that learners can expect to explore in this course? GUEST: Certainly, we're seeing a growing emphasis on digital accessibility, with many companies focusing on making their websites and apps more accessible. Additionally, there's a push for universal design principles in architecture and urban planning. HOST: Interesting, I can imagine those trends evolving even further in the future. Speaking of challenges, what are some common obstacles learners might face when studying accessible design and disability awareness? GUEST: One challenge is unlearning preconceived notions and prejudices about disabilities. Another is grasping the technical aspects of accessible design, such as web coding and building ramps. But with the right guidance and resources, these challenges can be overcome. HOST: I'm sure the course provides ample support in that regard. Lastly, where do you see the future of inclusive design and its impact on society in the next 5 to 10 years? GUEST: I believe inclusive design will become an integral part of every industry, from technology to fashion. As society becomes more diverse, the demand for inclusive environments and products will only grow. Our goal is to equip learners with the skills needed to lead this change. HOST: Dr. Smith, thank you so much for sharing your insights and shedding light on this important certificate course. We're excited to see the positive impact it will have on learners and society as a whole. GUEST: Thank you for having me. I'm confident that this course will empower learners to create a more inclusive world for everyone.
